Bryce Peterson Obituary, Death – It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the tragic loss of two young lives in a devastating ATV accident near Grand Rapids, Michigan. The community is grieving the untimely passing of Luke Kooistra, a talented and promising student from Forest Hills Eastern High School, and Bryce Peterson, a beloved former student and incoming Michigan State University freshman.
Luke Kooistra, age 17, was fatally injured early Sunday morning in a rollover crash involving a side-by-side ATV on private property in Golden Township. Despite efforts by first responders and medical personnel, Luke could not be resuscitated. He was known for his bright spirit and was preparing to start his college journey, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and promise.
Bryce Peterson, age 18, a former Forest Hills Eastern football player, has been charged with operating while intoxicated causing death, a serious offense, and has been ordered held on bond. Bryce was arraigned Monday and is restricted from consuming alcohol or drugs as he awaits further legal proceedings.
Bryce was also a respected member of the community and was preparing to begin his college career at Michigan State University. Our hearts are with the families of Luke and Bryce during this devastating time.
Luke’s father, Dr. Josh Kooistra, president of Corewell Health in West Michigan, and both families are mourning the loss of these young men who had so much potential and a bright future ahead.
